Getting My Deck Ready
So I grabbed my Sun and Moon Tarot deck – it’s this beautiful black-and-gold box I picked up last month. Honestly felt kinda fancy unboxing it. First step? Shuffling. I’m still awkward at it, kept dropping cards everywhere like a klutz. My cat chased one under the couch – spent ten minutes fishing it out with a broom handle. Not glamorous, but hey, real life.
Connecting with the Cards
Sat cross-legged on my carpet, took three deep breaths like I saw in that YouTube tutorial. Held the deck in both hands and kinda… talked to it? Felt silly saying this out loud, but I whispered: “Alright guys, show me what’s up today.” Focused real hard on my question about work stress while shuffling again. Dropped three more cards. Yep, I still suck at shuffling.
Pulling the Spread
Laid out three cards face-down like a pro (finally!). Flipped them left to right:
Card 1 (Sun position): The Sun card itself – ironic, right? Bright golden sun beaming at me.
Card 2 (Moon position): Seven of Cups – total chaos with floating cups and weird symbols.
Card 3 (Bridge): Knight of Pentacles – dude with a horse standing in a field.
Stared at them like they’d start talking. Nada. Just fancy cardboard.
Making Sense of the Mess
Opened my battered little guidebook that came with the deck. Here’s how I puzzled it out:
- The Sun card’s meaning felt straightforward: “You’re overcomplicating stuff – chill out.” Legit, ’cause I’d been stressing over minor deadlines.
- Seven of Cups? Guidebook said “too many options causing confusion.” Spot-on – I’d been paralyzed choosing between two projects.
- Knight of Pentacles was confusing though. Book said “slow progress,” but I thought knights were supposed to be action heroes? Then I realized – it’s telling me to plow ahead steadily instead of rushing.
Biggest lightbulb moment? Sun card’s bright vibe cut through the Moon card’s confusion. Felt like the deck was roasting my indecisiveness with visual aids.
What Actually Helped
Couple things I figured out through trial-and-error:
- Keep water nearby. Sounds dumb, but I got so hyper-focused I forgot to drink for 90 minutes.
- Don’t force meanings. When the Knight didn’t click immediately, I walked away for tea. Came back and saw it totally different.
- Write stuff down. Scribbled “stop overthinking choices” in my journal after seeing Seven of Cups. Made it stick better.
Ended up putting sticky notes on the “bridge” card meanings. That Knight’s still tricky for me, but hey – nobody masters tarot in one afternoon.
