Hey everyone! I’ve always been into both tarot and writing. One day, I got this wild idea: could tarot spreads actually help me come up with story ideas? So, I decided to give it a shot.
First off, I grabbed my trusty tarot deck. It’s this old, well – loved deck that I’ve had for ages. I shuffled the cards like a pro, making sure to mix them up real good. I was kind of nervous, like I was about to peek into a secret world.
Then, I chose a simple three – card spread. The first card was supposed to represent the beginning of the story, the second one the middle, and the third one the end. I laid the cards down one by one on my table. It felt like I was opening a little portal to a new story universe.

The first card I turned over was The Fool. It showed this carefree guy taking a leap of faith. I thought right away, “Okay, this could be a story about someone starting a crazy adventure with no clue what’s ahead.”
Next up was The Lovers. This card had a couple standing in a beautiful garden. I figured there could be a love angle in the middle of the story. Maybe the main character meets someone special during their adventure and has to make some tough choices.
Finally, I flipped the last card, The World. It depicted a person surrounded by a circle of completion. I realized the story could end with the main character achieving some kind of big goal or finding inner peace after all the crazy stuff that happened.
With these images in mind, I started jotting down some rough ideas. I created a character based on The Fool, a young and naive kid named Max. Max decides to leave his small town and go on a journey to find a magical artifact.
Along the way, Max meets a girl named Lily, just like The Lovers card suggested. They team up, but they also face some challenges. There are bad guys trying to stop them from getting the artifact, and Max has to choose between his goal and his feelings for Lily.
In the end, Max reaches the place where the artifact is hidden. He claims it and uses it to bring balance to the world, just like The World card showed. And he also figures out his feelings for Lily, and they live happily ever after… kind of.
Looking back on this experience, I think tarot spreads can definitely be a cool way to get story ideas. It’s like having a little creative helper that gives you random but inspiring images. According to some creative writing experts, using unconventional methods like this can boost creativity by up to 30%. So, if you’re stuck for story ideas, why not give tarot a try? You might be surprised at what you come up with!
