How I Tested That Virgo Career Horoscope Thing
Alright, so back in early 2018, I stumbled across this Virgo career horoscope post online. Honestly? Usually, I roll my eyes at that stuff. But this one screamed “MAJOR CHANGES AND OPPORTUNITIES AHEAD” for Virgos like me. The timing was weird – I was feeling stuck at my job. So I thought, screw it, let’s see if the stars are messing with me or not. I decided to treat it like a weird experiment.
First thing I did was actually print the darn thing out. Yeah, old school. Highlighted the bits about “taking calculated risks” and “networking leading to unexpected doors”. Figured if I was gonna try this, I needed reminders. Taped that printout right above my crappy desk.
Started small. The prediction mentioned “hidden opportunities in existing connections”. So I thought, fine, I’ll try talking to people. Not just my usual work buddies, but folks I barely knew in other departments. Grabbed coffee with Brenda from marketing, who I usually just waved at. Honestly felt awkward as hell at first. Chatted about nothing important, then somehow ended up bitching about how slow the billing system was. Turns out, Brenda hated it too and knew the guy revamping it. Boom. She set up a quick chat.
That horoscope also talked about “stepping out of comfort zones for growth”. Around March, a job opening popped up internally – a step up, but required presenting to execs regularly. Big yikes. Terrifies me. Normally, I wouldn’t touch it. But that stupid printout was staring at me: “Virgo, embrace the unfamiliar.” I gulped, cursed my printed horoscope, and hit apply.
Prepped like crazy for the interview. The printout got moved to my bathroom mirror. Showered while staring at “Virgo precision will shine”. Went into that interview room sweating bullets. Focused hard on what I knew best – the process improvements I’d suggested that actually worked. Tried not to sound like a robot. The head honcho actually nodded when I mentioned the billing system feedback Brenda gave me. Who knew?
Fast forward a few weeks. Got the job offer. Seriously? Part of me figured Brenda’s connection helped more than any star. Took the offer, obviously. More money, scarier meetings. But here’s the weird part the horoscope kinda nailed: the “major change” wasn’t just the new title.
Around September, in this new role, I had to present some boring quarterly report to a potential partner company. After the awful powerpoint torture (which went okay!), I got stuck talking with their project lead at the coffee machine. We were both Virgos, apparently. Made a dumb joke about horoscopes – mentioned the “big changes” prediction. He laughed, said his year had been wild too. We ended up brainstorming a tiny collaboration idea totally outside the meeting agenda. Six months later, that dumb coffee chat idea turned into a legit project generating new revenue. The horoscope called it “opportunities from unexpected places”. Damn if it wasn’t right that time.
So, my 2018 experiment?
- Actually tried some random horoscope advice.
- Talked to people I normally wouldn’t (starting with Brenda).
- Applied for that scary promotion because the paper said to “embrace unfamiliar”.
- Got the job.
- Then stumbled sideways into an actual business opportunity from a coffee chat.
Did the stars make it happen? Who the hell knows. Maybe it was just me finally poking my head up and trying things. But printing out that horoscope? Best random decision of early 2018. Proved useful for once. I still keep that faded, coffee-stained printout in my current desk drawer. Just in case.
