So last Tuesday, I figured I’d finally try this Juliana Tarot deck sitting on my shelf. Wanted something simple, y’know? Saw it recommended for beginners everywhere – figured, why not. Pulled out the box, kinda dusty actually. Shuffled the cards while watching some Netflix. Shuffled real clumsy at first, cards spilling all over the dang table. Gotta practice that more.
Grabbing Stuff & Getting Set Up
Okay, right. Made myself a kinda space. Cleared off the kitchen table. Grabbed a notebook – this old one with coffee stains – and a pen that barely worked. Figured writing stuff down might help me actually remember what happened. The Juliana guidebook is pretty thin. Read through the intro real quick. It basically said just relax, focus on your question, don’t stress. Good enough for me.
What the Heck to Ask?
This part always trips me up. Sat there scratching my head. Thinking about work felt too heavy. Started overthinking everything. Eventually just went with: “What should I focus on for the next few days?” Simple, broad, not scary. Better than nothing!
Doing the Draw (More Like Fumbling)
Closed my eyes, tried to calm down. Focused on that question. Shuffled again, dropping a couple more cards. Smooth. Stopped shuffling when it felt kinda right? Just pulled the top three cards, like most guides say to start. Laid them out left to right on the table. Here’s what flipped over:
- Card 1 (Left): Seven of Cups. Pictures of all these shiny cups floating around. Looked confusing immediately.
- Card 2 (Middle): The Star. Lady pouring water, big star above her. Okay, nice vibe? Hopeful?
- Card 3 (Right): Knight of Wands. Guy on a horse, holding a staff. Looks energetic, maybe impatient.
Staring Like a Confused Owl
Grabbed the guidebook fast. Flipped pages trying to find each card. Took forever. This is where the Juliana book being simple was nice. Short meanings:
- Seven of Cups: Choices! Lots of options. Maybe illusion, fantasy stuff. Feeling overwhelmed by possibilities?
- The Star: Hope, healing. Feeling positive. Calm after a storm. Inspiration flowing.
- Knight of Wands: Energy! Action! Passion! Maybe impulsive? Just jumping in.
Sat there chewing on it. The Star stuck in the middle kinda felt like the anchor message. Choices on one side, action on the other. The big ‘aha’: Maybe I’ve got too many random ideas floating around (Seven of Cups), but if I focus on that hopeful feeling (The Star), I can actually do something about one of them with some focused energy (Knight of Wands)… but maybe not try to do all of them at once like a crazy person? Felt like a little nudge to pick ONE thing from my ‘idea pile’ and actually run with it instead of just dreaming.
Scratching It Down
Wrote in my notebook:
- “Too many ideas floating? Pick just ONE.”
- “Good energy available.”
- “Don’t rush it, but do something – focus that fire.”
Left it at that. Felt pretty darn okay for a first try with these cards. Didn’t try to force some huge deep meaning.
Bottom Line for Other Newbies Trying Juliana Tarot
Seriously, just keep it simple. Don’t get hung up on perfect shuffles or memorizing every meaning. Pick a basic, low-pressure question. Draw one or three cards. Use the guide’s simple keywords. Then just sit with the pictures and see what feeling you get. What pops into your head? Write that down, even if it feels silly. Most importantly? Don’t freak out. It’s just pictures on paper giving you a different way to look at your own thoughts. Easy peasy. Now go try it yourself!
