My Penny Thornton Virgo Money Week Experiment
Okay so last Monday morning I was drinking my coffee scrolling through emails when I saw Penny Thornton’s weekly guide for Virgos promising “financial success tips”. I thought why not give it a shot? Grabbed my notebook right then.
Step 1: Tracking Every Penny
The guide kept shouting about expense tracking. Monday noon I downloaded some free app – didn’t want to pay for anything obviously. Then I spent three hours fighting with it because the damn thing wouldn’t sync with my bank automatically.
- Finally said screw it and started typing everything manually
- Found 4 subscriptions I forgot about like that yoga app I used twice
- Shocked by how much coffee runs added up
Step 2: The Envelope Trick
Wednesday I tried that cash envelope system Penny mentioned. Pulled $500 cash from ATM like she suggested.
- Felt like my grandma stuffing cash into envelopes labeled “groceries” “fun money” etc
- By Thursday my “eating out” envelope was already empty
- Friday lunch with coworkers? Had to say no cause my envelope was sad
Step 3: Negotiation Nonsense
The guide said Virgos should negotiate bills this week. Called my internet provider Friday morning. Got transferred FIVE times. Each time explaining why my bill was too damn high.
- Eventually yelled “just cancel my service then!”
- Magically found a “retention discount” saving me $20/month
- Took 47 minutes and my throat hurt after
What Actually Happened
Well by Sunday night my wallet had receipts spilling out like confetti. I did save $85 from canceling subscriptions and bill negotiating.
- But wasted 6 hours total doing all this crap
- Got into fight with girlfriend cause envelope system meant no date night
- Still feel poor just more organized about it
Honestly? Maybe Virgos like complicated systems but I need a drink after this week. Might try half these tips next month when I recover from envelope trauma.
