So last weekend I got this wild idea to make SKZ themed tarot cards after scrolling through Tumblr. Saw some cool fan art and thought – “hey this seems simple enough.” Spoiler: it wasn’t as easy as it looked but totally worth it. Here’s how it went down.
Getting Started & Hitting the First Wall
First, I grabbed my dusty graphic tablet and fired up my free drawing software. Felt all motivated thinking I’d whip up eight cards real quick. Nope. My brain froze harder than my laptop in January trying to pick which SKZ member goes with which tarot card. Drowned in Chrome tabs looking for references. Felt like hours passed.
Tip: Google “most iconic SKZ moments” pics. Lifesaver.
The Actual Messy Creation Part
Started rough. Real rough. Picked “The Magician” for Bang Chan first cause leadership vibes? Just went with it.
- Scribbled a messy stick figure pose where Chan points upward (tried that magician hand gesture thing).
- Grabbed screenshots from God’s Menu MV to trace his hoodie and mic – cheating? Maybe. Do I care? No.
- Got greedy with colors. Slapped on blue/purple background layers like I was Jackson Pollock on caffeine. Looked like abstract puke. Dialed back the opacity real quick.
- Added those glowy star bits around the mic. Used that weird spray can tool. Accidentally made one star gigantic. Had to erase like crazy.
Saved it as “chan_magician_draft1_*”. Felt proud for five whole seconds.
The Power of Fandom Wisdom (aka Copying Smarter People)
Tumblr folks are genius. Saw someone add song lyrics as subtle borders. Stole that move shamelessly.
- Pasted “I GOT IT” really tiny along the bottom edge of Chan’s card. Faded it almost to death so it didn’t scream LOOK AT ME.
- Tried putting “ZONE” sideways next to Changbin’s silhouette for The Chariot card. Looked like typo disaster. Trashed it and settled for just the song name small under his feet.
Still counts as ~creative~.
The Final Hurdle & Happy Accident
Thought I was done after adding sparkles to Felix’s The Sun card. Previewed all cards together – clash city. Hyunjin’s purple drowned out everyone else. Panic-slid saturation bars for thirty minutes.
Toggled some filter called “vintage” as joke. Everything suddenly clicked? Got that faded, dreamy Tumblr aesthetic instantly. Pure luck.
Biggest lesson?
- Don’t start from scratch – use MV stills!
- Less color = more vibe.
- Filters save lives.
Posted it. Got three reblogs. Success. If I can survive the mess, anyone can.
