Ended up ordering a pack online from some specialty electronics store. Took a few days to arrive. So, grabbed the soldering iron again. Added a little fresh solder to those joints, flowing it nicely around the cracked area. Re-secured it. Didn’t even bother putting the whole casing back on right away. Just quickly plugged it in and hit the button.
BOOM. The little green light came on. The fan whirred to life. The disc drive made that familiar little whirring sound. I almost yelled. I probably did, actually. A little fist pump and a “YES!” escaped my lips. Couldn’t believe it actually worked.
Slapped the casing back on, screwed it all in, plugged in a controller, fired up an old game. It worked. Flawlessly. The graphics were retro, but the feeling of accomplishment was brand new.
