Eights in tarot explained (Get clarity on your journey).

Posted on 26/12/2025 Phoenix Vale By Phoenix Vale

You know, for the longest time, the Eights in a tarot deck just kinda messed with my head. I mean, you’ve got the fresh start of the Aces, the full circle of the Tens, but these Eights? They felt like a pit stop, or maybe a really active middle ground, always pushing, always moving, but never quite settling. They kept popping up in my readings, sometimes singly, sometimes a couple at once, and I just knew they were trying to tell me something important about how things actually happen out there in the real world, not just the big beginnings or endings.

I remember one time, I was trying to get a project off the ground, pitching ideas left and right, and everything felt like it was just barely crawling. Then, boom, the Eight of Wands showed up. And suddenly, it was like someone hit fast-forward on my life. Emails were flying, calls were happening, ideas I’d barely whispered about suddenly had legs and were running. It wasn’t just about speed, though; it was about focused, directed speed. Things weren’t just chaotic; they were moving towards something. It taught me that sometimes, you gotta wait for that burst, but when it comes, you better be ready to ride it. It’s all about getting your ducks in a row and then letting ’em fly.

Then there was a stretch, not too long ago, where I felt… off. I had achieved a few things I’d been chasing for a while, good stuff on paper, but deep down, it felt hollow. Like I was at a party I didn’t really wanna be at, you know? The Eight of Cups kept showing its face. And man, that card is a kicker. It’s about walking away. Not because things blew up, but because they just don’t fit anymore. It’s about realizing that what you thought you wanted, or what you worked so hard for, isn’t actually making you happy. I had to gather my stuff and just… leave it behind. It hurt like hell, felt like I was giving up, but it was really about stepping out into the unknown to find something more real, more aligned with who I was becoming. You gotta have the guts to turn your back on what’s comfortable for what’s true.

Oh, and the Eight of Swords. That one used to make me groan. You see that person tied up, blindfolded, with all those swords around, and you just think, “Ugh, trapped.” And yeah, that’s exactly how I felt a bunch of times. Stuck. Couldn’t move, couldn’t think, just spinning my wheels in a puddle of anxiety and overthinking. I’d pull that card and it would hit me: I was my own jailer. The ropes? My own doubts. The blindfold? My refusal to look at solutions because I was too busy stressing about the problem. It was always about realizing that the escape route was usually right there, a step away, if I just bothered to take off the mental blindfold. It’s a harsh reminder that sometimes, the biggest obstacles are the ones we build in our own heads.

And finally, the old reliable Eight of Pentacles. This one ain’t pretty, it ain’t flashy, but it’s probably one of the most honest cards in the deck about how to get good at anything. I saw this one a lot when I decided I really wanted to master a skill, something I knew would take consistent, sometimes tedious, work. It was about showing up every single day, putting in the hours, refining, practicing, not for immediate applause, but for the sheer dedication to the craft. Learning the ropes, fixing mistakes, doing it again and again until it started to click. There’s no shortcut with this card; it’s just pure, unadulterated elbow grease. It taught me that real mastery isn’t about one big breakthrough, but a million tiny, consistent efforts.

What I Got From All This

So, looking back, these Eights, they aren’t about beginnings or endings. They’re about the doing. They’re the cards of dynamic action, of the actual grind, the transitions, the hard choices, and the persistent effort that happens smack dab in the middle of any journey. They showed me that progress isn’t always smooth sailing; it’s about making moves, sometimes tough ones, sometimes fast ones, sometimes just slow and steady ones. They’re telling you to get off your butt, face whatever’s coming, and put in the work. You can’t just wish for things to happen; you gotta make them happen, step by step, decision by decision, often without fanfare. That’s the real talk from the Eights.
