So this morning I’m drinking my coffee scrolling through some astrology stuff. Honestly I don’t usually take this too serious, but the June Virgo career thing popped up. “Spot opportunities?” Yeah right, like I’m finding gold at my desk job. Whatever. Gave it a read while waiting for my toast.
My “Professional” Morning Routine
Started work same as always. Logged in, ignored like fifteen emails right off the bat. Was about to dive into another soul-crushing spreadsheet when that horoscope line popped in my head – “look for subtle shifts.” Figured, what the hell, maybe I’ll actually pay attention today instead of autopiloting.
Instead of just blasting through tasks, I did three things different:
- Stopped muting that annoying team chat: Usually I turn notifications off. Big mistake apparently. Some manager was casually asking if anyone had experience with Project Krypton. Ding! I helped beta-test that last year.
- Actually looked at meeting invites instead of groaning: Noticed the department head joined a small project sync meeting later. Weird. She never does that. Marked it as important mentally.
- Spent two extra minutes scanning emails before deleting: Found buried request from IT asking about beta testing a new workflow tool. Didn’t even see it yesterday!
The “Opportunity” Bit Me On The Nose
Later, I threw a casual comment in that team chat about my Project Krypton experience. Got a direct message five minutes later from that manager asking if I could hop on a quick call. Turns out they desperately needed someone who knew the old system for a new client pitch. Bam. Suddenly I’m useful.
Then the meeting with the department head? Listened more than talked. Heard her mention frustration with slow reporting. Remembered that stupid IT beta tool for streamlining reports I saw in the email. Spoke up after the meeting: “Hey, noticed IT has that new reporting tool in beta. Maybe I could try it out for next week’s numbers?” She looked surprised. Said yes.
Afternoon rolls around. Boss swings by. “Heard you got tapped for the Krypton pitch AND volunteered for the beta tool? Nice hustle.” Felt like dumb luck dressed up as a plan. Finished the day not drowning in spreadsheets but actually involved in new stuff. Weird.
So yeah, did I magically manifest opportunities? Nah. But that horoscope crap? Maybe it just reminded me to lift my head up from the daily grind sludge and actually look at what was happening around me. Coffee stains on the keyboard stayed the same though. Some things never change.
