So I pulled out my Pagan Otherworlds deck this morning and thought, let’s actually compare it to some other decks I own. You know, just to see which one feels better for different kinds of readings.
Getting Everything Ready
First thing, I grabbed my Pagan Otherworlds Tarot, my Rider-Waite deck, and this other one I have—the Everyday Witch Tarot. I laid them all out on my big wooden table. I made sure the lighting was good and I had my journal and a pen nearby. I like to write things down as I go.
Starting with the Pagan Otherworlds Deck
I shuffled the Pagan Otherworlds cards for a good few minutes. The card stock is thick, so it’s a bit harder to shuffle, but I like the feel. I decided to do a simple three-card spread: past, present, future. I drew The High Priestess, The Star, and The World. The artwork is so detailed and kind of dark, which I really vibe with. It felt serious, like it was giving me deep answers.

Switching to the Rider-Waite Deck
Next, I picked up my old Rider-Waite deck. I’ve had this one for years. Shuffling it was easy—the cards are bendy and well-used. I did the same three-card spread. I got The Magician, The Tower, and The Sun. The images are classic and straightforward. It felt familiar, like talking to an old friend. But sometimes it can feel a bit too simple, you know?
Trying the Everyday Witch Tarot
Then I moved on to the Everyday Witch Tarot. This deck is more modern and playful. The cards are smoother and shuffle really easily. I did the same spread again and pulled The Fool, Ten of Cups, and Justice. The artwork is colorful and lighthearted. It felt encouraging, like it was giving me a gentle nudge rather than a deep dive.
Comparing the Feel and Messages
So here’s what I noticed:
-
Pagan Otherworlds
- Feels heavy and serious. Good for when I want a deep, introspective reading.
- The artwork is stunning but can be intense for beginners.
- Gives detailed, complex answers.
-
Rider-Waite
- Classic and reliable. Perfect for learning the basics.
- Easy to read because the symbols are clear and well-known.
- Sometimes feels a bit too straightforward if I want more depth.
-
Everyday Witch
- Light and friendly. Great for everyday questions or when I need a positive boost.
- Artwork is fun and less intimidating.
- Messages are simple and uplifting, but not as layered.
Wrapping It Up
After all that, I think the Pagan Otherworlds deck is better for me when I’m doing serious spiritual work or deeper self-reflection. But if I’m just checking in on my day or helping a friend who’s new to tarot, I’d probably reach for the Rider-Waite or the Everyday Witch. It really depends on what you need at the moment. No single deck is the best for everything—you just have to try them and see what clicks.
