Back in 2020, I was like a Virgo in my career, facing all sorts of challenges and trying to hit my goals. It was a wild ride, let me tell you.
At the start of 2020, I set some big career goals. I wanted to get a promotion, learn some new skills, and make a name for myself in the industry. But right off the bat, things got tough. The company I worked for was going through some changes, and there were a lot of lay – offs. I was worried I’d be next.
I decided to take action. First, I started networking like crazy. I joined some industry groups on social media and went to virtual meet – ups. I talked to people, asked for advice, and tried to build relationships. I even reached out to some old colleagues and asked if they knew of any opportunities.

Then, I focused on learning new skills. I signed up for online courses in areas like project management and data analysis. It was hard work, spending my evenings and weekends studying, but I knew it was worth it. I was determined to make myself more valuable to the company.
There were times when I felt like giving up. The workload was huge, and I was getting frustrated with all the roadblocks. But I kept pushing. I reminded myself of my goals and why I wanted to achieve them.
As the year went on, I started to see some results. I got more involved in important projects at work. My new skills came in handy, and I was able to contribute more. I also made some great connections through networking, which opened up new possibilities.
Finally, at the end of 2020, I got that promotion I’d been aiming for. It was such a great feeling, knowing that all my hard work had paid off. I learned that in a challenging year like 2020, you gotta be proactive, keep learning, and never give up on your goals. It might be tough, but if you stick with it, you can make it happen.
