Alright so back in 2016 I was stuck career-wise – totally burned out in customer service but clueless what to try next. One night scrolling Twitter I see this “Virgo career forecast 2017” zodiac post popping up everywhere. Normally I’d ignore horoscope stuff but desperation makes you try weird things right?
The setup phase
First thing Monday morning I grabbed my notebook and did exactly what that zodiac guide suggested:
- Dug out my old resume feeling like an archaeologist
- Highlighted every task I actually enjoyed doing at past jobs (turned out yellow marker smelled weird)
- Made three lists: stuff I sucked at, stuff I tolerated, stuff that made time fly
Took me four coffee refills to finish but seeing it all written down was wild – turns out fixing spreadsheets gave me joy. Who knew?
The leap of faith
February rolls around and Virgo predictions said “communication skills will open doors”. So when Frank from accounting mentioned needing spreadsheet help during lunch? I practically yelled “I VOLUNTEER!” Scared the crap out of him but two days later I was cleaning up their broken inventory system. Ugly numbers everywhere but man I loved organizing that disaster.
That led to helping marketing with their messy data in March – exactly when that zodiac post said “hidden talents emerge.” Spooky coincidence! Started learning Excel shortcuts religiously watching YouTube tutorials at 2am.
The reality check
Summer comes and the forecast promises “major career shifts”. Cue massive disappointment when my big shot at junior analyst position went to Sharon from purchasing. But guess what? That zodiac thing predicted this too: “obstacles teach patience.” So weird how I only remembered that part AFTER the rejection!
Kept plugging away fixing departments’ data nightmares. By November I was known as the “spreadsheet whisperer” which honestly sounds cooler than it was. Ended 2017 with no promotion but way more confidence.
Where things stand now
Looking back? That zodiac guide was 60% vague nonsense but 40% surprisingly useful kick in the pants. Mainly it forced me to actually track:
- What drained my energy daily
- When I got in “flow” state naturally
- Which coworkers kept sneaking me data projects
Would I follow zodiac advice today? Probably not. But forcing myself to map my career like constellations revealed patterns I was too busy to see. Still doing data work seven years later – turns out Virgos thrive in orderly chaos. Might check the 2025 forecast later… you know, just for laughs.
