Honestly I’ve never been big on horoscopes but May 2025 was rough. Felt stuck at my job like a hamster on a broken wheel. Saw this “Virgo Career Horoscope” thing on some blog – figured why not give it a shot? Worst case, nothing changes.

First thing Tuesday morning I cracked open my laptop. That horoscope had three points hammered hard:

- Update ONE key skill this month
My Virgo brain screamed “But WHAT skill? HOW to network? WHICH jobs???” Shut it down. Just followed the damn steps.
How it actually went down
Day 1: Dusted off my LinkedIn. Didn’t over-engineer the profile update like last time. Typed what I actually do daily instead of fancy jargon. Hit update before second-guessing. Felt terrifyingly reckless.
Day 3: Messaged Lisa from accounting. She moved into data analytics last year. Horoscope said “ask about daily realities, not generic advice.” Bought her coffee. Asked what makes her swear at her screen on Wednesdays. Got real talk about crappy databases and stakeholder meetings. Way better than googling “day in life data analyst.”
Days 5-10: Signed up for that stupid SQL course I bookmarked 18 months ago. Did 30 minutes daily. Didn’t try to master everything. Focused ONLY on pulling reports faster – because Lisa said THAT’S what eats her time. Still suck at joins but can filter data like a pro now.
The weird part that actually worked
Applied for two jobs. Normally I’d tweak my resume for weeks. This time? Friday afternoon felt reckless again. Saw a Junior Analytics role at a logistics company. Used Lisa’s exact words about “cleaning messy shipment data” in my cover letter. Attached it. Closed Chrome immediately. Didn’t even proofread.
Got a call Wednesday. They liked the “real talk about data pain points.” Still interviewing but… wait. Did the horoscope plan actually function?
Cleanup after the chaos
Honestly? Spent maybe 4 hours total. My SQL notes look like a toddler’s scribbles. Networking still feels awkward. But that application took 20 minutes instead of 20 days. Course done. Coffee drank. Ball rolling.
Still not buying crystal balls. But trying stuff fast beats planning forever. Even if astrology kicked my overthinking butt this round.
