Back in May 2018, I was a Virgo with big career goals. I was determined to make things happen, so I started by sitting down and really thinking about what I wanted to achieve. I jotted down all my career dreams on a piece of paper, from getting a promotion to learning new skills.
First off, I knew I needed to set some clear and specific goals. I didn’t just say, “I want to do well at work.” Instead, I said, “I want to increase my sales by 20% this month” and “I want to complete that important project ahead of schedule.” Setting these concrete goals gave me a clear direction.
Then, I made a plan. I broke down each goal into smaller, manageable steps. For example, to increase my sales, I decided to make more cold calls, improve my pitch, and follow up with clients more often. I put these steps on my calendar and set deadlines for myself.
Next, I focused on learning. I knew I needed to up my game if I wanted to reach my career goals. So, I signed up for an online course related to my field. I spent my evenings and weekends studying, taking notes, and doing the assignments. It was tough, but I was really into it.
At work, I started taking on more responsibilities. I volunteered for projects that no one else wanted to do. I also tried to build better relationships with my colleagues and superiors. I listened to their advice, asked for feedback, and helped them out when they were in a jam.
There were definitely some bumps in the road. Sometimes, I didn’t meet my daily or weekly targets. There were days when I felt like giving up. But I reminded myself of my long – term goals and kept pushing forward.
As the month went on, I started seeing results. My sales were slowly going up, and I was making good progress on my projects. My boss noticed my hard work and gave me more opportunities to shine.
By the end of May 2018, I had achieved most of my career goals. I had increased my sales by more than 20%, completed the project ahead of schedule, and learned a whole bunch of new skills. It was an amazing feeling, and I realized that with hard work, a clear plan, and a positive attitude, I could really make my career dreams come true.
