So I finally got my hands on the Cosmic Slumber Tarot deck this morning. I’ve been seeing it all over the place, and everyone kept talking about the artwork, so I figured it was time to see what the fuss was about.
Unboxing the Deck
I opened the box real careful. The first thing I noticed was the guidebook – it’s way bigger than I expected. Most decks come with a tiny little pamphlet, but this one’s a proper book. Then I pulled out the cards. The card stock feels good, not too slippery, not too rough. But honestly, I just stared at the back of the first card for a solid minute. The colors are just… wow. It’s like a dream you don’t wanna wake up from.

My First Impressions and a Quick Shuffle
I sat down at my kitchen table, cleared off some space, and just started looking through each card one by one. I wasn’t even trying to read them yet. I was just looking at the pictures. There’s a snail with a little house on its back, a woman sleeping on the moon… it’s weird but in a good way. It feels peaceful. After I went through all 78 cards, I shuffled them. I’m still not great at shuffling these big cards, so I just split the deck a bunch of times and mixed them up as best I could.
Asking a Simple Question
I decided to keep it super simple for my first try. I held the deck and just thought, “Okay, what’s the overall energy of this deck? What should I know about it?” I know that’s a pretty basic question, but I’m a beginner, so basic is where I live right now. I cut the deck and pulled just one card from the top.
The Card I Got
I turned it over and it was the Nine of Cups. The card shows this happy-looking person surrounded by all these cups, just chilling. In the guidebook, it talks about contentment, wishes coming true, and just feeling really good about things. It felt like the deck was saying, “Hey, we’re gonna get along just fine. This is gonna be a positive experience.” It was a really nice and welcoming first card to get.
What I Think After Trying It
For anyone just starting out, this deck seems really friendly. The pictures tell a story, so even if you forget all the traditional meanings, you can just look at the card and get a feeling from it. The guidebook is actually helpful and doesn’t use a bunch of fancy words. I’m gonna keep this one on my desk for a while. I think I’ll pull one card each morning and see how it goes.
It’s not as scary as I thought it would be. You just gotta jump in and try it.
