Working with Virgo and Capricorn? Improve your work compatibility with these tips!

Working with Virgo and Capricorn? Improve your work compatibility with these tips!

Man, working with different folks, it’s always an adventure, right? Especially when you’re trying to get a project off the ground and everyone’s got their own way of doing things. I’ve been around the block a few times, and I’ve seen all sorts. But I gotta say, trying to mesh with a team that had a strong dose of what I later figured out were classic Virgo and Capricorn traits – that was a whole new level of learning for me.

I remember this one big software overhaul we were tackling. I was heading up the front-end redesign, and my main go-to person on the back-end was this super-sharp guy, let’s call him Mark. And then the project manager, Sarah, she was intense. Right away, I noticed stuff. Mark, bless his soul, would nitpick every single pixel I moved. Every spacing, every font size, he’d catch it. And I mean, he’d catch things my own eyes just glossed over. At first, it drove me nuts! I’d push something out, thinking it was pretty solid, and BAM, his email would hit my inbox with a list. It felt like I was back in school getting my homework graded every single time.

And Sarah? Oh man, Sarah was all about the plan, the structure, the timelines. We’d have a meeting, and she’d come in with a Gantt chart that looked like a work of art, but also a cage. She wanted everything nailed down, every step accounted for, every potential roadblock anticipated. If something wasn’t on the roadmap, or if I suggested a more “agile” (read: less planned out) approach, she’d get this look, like I was trying to dismantle the entire project with a butter knife. I just wanted to get things moving, try stuff out, iterate quickly. They wanted perfection and a fortress plan, and I wanted to be a bit more free-flowing. It felt like we were speaking different languages.

I started noticing a pattern. Mark wasn’t being difficult; he was just seeing details I missed. And Sarah wasn’t trying to slow us down; she was trying to build a solid foundation so things wouldn’t crumble later. It clicked – these guys were just operating from a different wiring, a different set of priorities. I realized I couldn’t just keep banging my head against the wall expecting them to change their stripes. I had to change how I was approaching them.

Here’s what I started doing:

  • For the detail-oriented folks (like Mark, my Virgo-leaner):
    • I started double-checking my own work before sending it over. Not just a quick glance, but a real deep dive into the specifics. I’d imagine him looking at it and try to anticipate his feedback. This actually made my work better, period.
    • When I did get feedback, I stopped taking it personally. I started seeing it as a second pair of very sharp eyes catching stuff I’d genuinely overlooked. I’d ask him, “Hey, can you walk me through your thought process on this specific point?” Sometimes it was an obvious fix, sometimes it opened up a new way of thinking for me.
    • I’d give him things early, with a clear heads-up that it was “rough” or “draft.” This seemed to manage expectations. He could still find stuff, but it wasn’t a surprise, and he felt like he was contributing to the shaping, not just correcting.
  • For the structure and planning-focused folks (like Sarah, my Capricorn-leaner):
    • I started framing my suggestions within the existing plan, or proposing structured alternatives. Instead of saying, “Let’s just wing it with this feature,” I’d say, “What if we carve out a small, defined sprint to test this specific idea, and if it works, we integrate it into the next phase of the plan?” This made my ‘flexibility’ sound less like chaos.
    • I’d bring data, or at least a clear rationale, to my proposals. Instead of just saying, “I feel like this would be better,” I’d try to explain why it might be better, how it could achieve a goal Sarah cared about, like efficiency or reduced risk down the line.
    • I made sure to always hit my deadlines. Even if it was for a small part, hitting those deadlines reinforced trust. It showed her that while I might think differently, I was still committed to the overall structure and objectives.

It wasn’t overnight, but slowly, things shifted. Mark started trusting my initial output more because he saw I was putting in the effort on the details. He’d still catch things, but it felt less like an inspection and more like a collaboration. Sarah, she began to see that my suggestions weren’t just random acts of rebellion, but often well-thought-out ways to achieve the project goals, sometimes even more efficiently within a defined framework. She even started allowing for more “experimental sprints” in her master plan, which was a huge win.

What I learned is that it’s not about one person being right and the other wrong. It’s about recognizing that different people bring different strengths to the table. And if you take a moment to really see why they do what they do, you can adjust your own approach and build a much smoother, and ultimately, more effective working relationship. It’s all about finding that common ground and tweaking your own style to meet them halfway. Makes a world of difference, believe me.
