Morning kicked off like always – coffee brewing while scrolling through emails. Found my Virgo self drowning in tasks again. So I grabbed this old notebook (the one with coffee stains) and started implementing those three career moves I keep preaching about.
Move 1: Track Every Damn Thing
Opened that fancy app everyone raves about. Closed it five seconds later. Too complicated. Just scribbled in my notebook instead:
- 9:30 AM – Fixed Sarah’s spreadsheet disaster (again)
- 11:00 – Client call with Mike’s team – totally vague requests
- 2:00 PM – Email avalanche hit like a truck
Seeing it on paper? Felt like my brain finally breathed. Realized half that “urgent” stuff could’ve waited till tomorrow.
Move 2: Say “No” Without Panicking
Our intern popped by asking for help debugging at 4:45 PM. Normally I’d say yes and miss dinner. This time? Pointed at my notebook: “Schedule blocks open tomorrow at 10.” Felt terrifying. But kid just nodded and booked it. Went home at 5:00 sharp for the first time in months.
Move 3: Learn One Stupid Small Thing Daily
Almost cheated today. Almost. Then remembered last week’s presentation disaster when I couldn’t format tables quickly. Spent ten whole minutes learning PowerPoint’s “merge cells” shortcut. Felt dumb at first. Used it three times already since then.
Ended the day flipping through that ugly notebook. That “pointless” intern task from Tuesday? Showed my boss today – got called “meticulous” (that’s Virgo for “not crazy”). Proof even tiny moves matter. Gonna keep this crap up.
